Which Mobile Phone Repair Shop Is Better?

Which Mobile Phone Repair Shop Is Better?  Here we have two competing mobile phone repair shops – Shop A and Shop B.  Both shops repair iPhone screens.

Shop A charges $279
Shop B charges $199

So… Which Mobile Phone Repair Shop Is Better?  You would think that Shop B is better because they are doing the same repair for $80 less than Shop A, yes??

Wrong.  Both shops are not offering the same repair at all… What a lot of customers don’t realise is that Shop A and Shop B both buy different quality parts at very different prices.  For instance, Shop A buys AAA Grade screens at $200 each, while Shop B buys generic aftermarket screens at $120 each.

Both shops make the same profit of $80, except Shop A has far less returns than Shop B does and in turn has a lot more happy / satisfied customers than Shop B who will spend half of the day re-repairing phones for its increasingly unhappy customers…

So for around half of the customers who chose Shop B because they got a cheaper price, they will now have to spend their time going back to Shop B to have their phone re-repaired (sometimes more than once) while Shop B tries to find a screen that actually works properly.

Meanwhile, around 90% of customers from Shop A have ended up with a perfectly good working screen and can happily continue on their daily lives, uninterrupted.

Over time, Shop A will gain long term customers and a well earned good reputation.  However, Shop B will lose their long term customers due to repair complications and eventually end up with a very bad reputation which will warn off a lot of new customers.  They will also lose some of their customers to Shop A, after continuously failing to repair that customers phone.

Shop A will remain profitable, while Shop B will have to discount their repairs for customers who keep having to return and will need to refund customers who get fed up with their inferior quality screens all together.

So our advice is to always remember – Cheaper doesn’t mean better!  By all means shop around, but make sure you are comparing like for like… Not all screens are the same quality, not all shops will honour their stated warranties, and some shops won’t even be there when you come back with a problem!

Honesty has always been our best quality here at Gold Coast Phone Repairs and we always stand by our warranties. We never mark up prices, or use cheap inferior parts in our repairs.  While we always strive to be competitive with our pricing, we never let it compromise our quality of work or service!

So, from all of us here at Gold Coast Phone Repairs, we hope that this advice will assist in helping you choose which phone shop to repair your phone at next time an unfortunate accident occurs, and we look forward to seeing you all in store sometime in the near future!

Apple Removes Tool to Check if an iPhone is Locked:

So without warning Apple have removed this handy tool to check whether or not the iPhone / iPad you’re about to buy is still linked to it’s previous owners iCloud account.

They haven’t officially given a reason but rumor has it that this tool was being used by phone thieves to ‘test’ newly generated imei numbers to see whether they were usable or not, before soldering the counterfeit flash chips onto the mainboard and selling them illegally.

Unfortunately, this means that purchasing a second hand iPhone just got a whole lot riskier for consumers as there is no longer any sure fire way to confirm the lock status of an iDevice without physically completing the activation process in person to verify that there is infact no iCloud account required!

So, as a result, I’m sure we will be seeing alot more people in store asking if there is anyway to remove an iCloud lock from an iPhone they bought off Ebay or Gumtree in the near future… and just for the record – NO, there isn’t 🙁

For anyone who is thinking of buying a second hand iPhone or a refurbished one (which we sell!), then we urge you to be careful and if you aren’t sure, please, please come and see us first so that we can give you the best advise, allowing you to make a safe purchase.

If you are still unsure, then you can always buy a refurbished iPhone from us! They come with warranty and you have a shop front to return to if anything does go wrong so, why risk buying online for the sake of saving a few bucks!? (that saving could end up costing you a whole lot more if the phone turns out to be locked!!)
